On 17 January 1884 the Law Society of the Cape of Good Hope resolved to introduce a legal periodical. William Henry Somerset Bell was offered the editorship of the proposed Cape Law Journal.
First published in 1884, it was the first ever South African legal periodical and was published and printed by Richards, Slater & Co. in Grahamstown on behalf of the Eastern Districts’ Law Society.
Volumes 1 to 17 were published under the Cape Law Journal before the name was changed to the South African Law Journal in 1901.
These scarce and sought after volumes offered are in fair to good condition, all in original binding – although some volumes may require repair.
